Holy Shit…

So today I watched Cocaine Cowboys, Jesus Camp and Sir! No Sir!. I’d already seen Cocaine Cowboys, but this was the first time I’ve watched Jesus Camp and Sir! No Sir!, they are all documentaries, I seem to be watching a lot of them lately.

So Cocaine Cowboys is pretty obvious title, it’s about drug trafficking, specifically cocaine in the 1970’s to 1990’s in Miami Florida, it’s interesting to see that nothing really happened until they started gunning rival drug dealers down in the streets in 1979.

Jesus Camp is about Evangelical Christians and how they are indoctrinating their children to be ‘warriors’ in ‘Gods army’ and those are comments made by children that are 9 and 12. It’s pretty scary stuff, especially when the Pastor advocates that the children should be as prepared to lay down there lives for the Gospel as they are for Islam in Pakistan, Israel, and Palestine.

Sir! No Sir! is about the GI movement during the Vietnam War, about how they came back from Vietnam and protested the war, a lot of them were jailed or threatened with Mutiny charges. It’s interesting to look at the Vietnam war and how a lot of things seem to dove tail with the present American war. They started in North Vietnam, and it ended up spilling over into Cambodia. They started in Afghanistan and it ended up spilling over into Iraq. The Vietnam war started off as a seemingly necessary war, but as more and more reports came home of what was actually going on they started to lose popular opinion, similar things have started to happen with the second Iraq war, LBJ was ousted from office because of it, and then so was Richard Nixon, Bush has started on a downward spiral after he was re-elected in 2005, his popularity has slowly been declining since 2004 and has reached an all time low of 34.8% approval rating in February this year.

It’ll be interesting to see how the 2008 elections go down, an african american and a women in the running. I wonder if one of them will get elected just so there is some one different, because what the states doesn’t need is an other old white guy from a state whose name starts with the letter T. I say Vote Stanhope! Night all.
